History in shorts:
The choir starts in Milan
(Italy), after having shared some volunteering experiences especially
through the Africa Oggi workcamps in Africa and South America.
In the early ’90 about ten of us
committed themselves by preparing the hymns for the usual Africa Oggi
meeting’s Holy Mass. This had us to try to make ourselves a "virtual
bridge" between the communities of Africa/South America and the italian
ones.
The hymn in a foreigner language was for us also a kind of another “instrument”
to live one’s spirituality in a new way and to let people enjoy
the Holy Mass in a different way.
One day, a couple of friends asked this
band to perform at their wedding mass , (Monza 3 september 1993)..and we did it !
After a couple of weddings some parishes asked us to perform at one of
their Sunday Holy Mass.
We thought that it would have been a good idea to share this songs with
other communities and to give eventual offers received to some solidarity
projects.
From the middle of 1996 about the choir goes by the name of Bandeko.
Since that time, more and more dates were
demanded even for different contests: people’s celebrations, baptisms,
missionary’s days, marches for peace, missionary’s anniversaries,
and so on.
So far, with simplicity, we use to have
one practice every week to get these hymns as better as we can, and to
learn some more...
